WHAT TO EXPECT

Your installation in 4 clear steps

1

STEP 01

Discuss the rooms and project

Share your plans, floor areas and whether the work is part of an extension, renovation or existing-room upgrade.

2

STEP 02

Assess floor and system suitability

We consider floor construction, available height, heat requirements and the existing heat source and controls.

3

STEP 03

Explain the design and estimate

We discuss a suitable pipe layout, control options and the scope of the proposed installation.

4

STEP 04

Install, test and hand over

The agreed system is installed and tested, with controls and operating guidance explained at handover.

Design considerations for wet underfloor heating

Wet underfloor heating circulates heated water through pipes beneath the floor. Its suitability depends on the room’s heat requirements, insulation and floor build-up, so a floor area alone is not enough to select a system. Share drawings, room dimensions and information about the existing heat source where available. Let us know whether the work concerns a new extension or an occupied room with a finished floor.

Floor levels and finishes need early attention. The pipe system, insulation and any screed or overlay must fit the construction, while the chosen floor covering must be suitable for the intended operating conditions. Door thresholds, kitchen units and other fixed features can also influence the layout. Avoid finalising floor heights or ordering finishes until the relevant requirements have been checked with the people responsible for the design and installation.

Controls and zoning determine how individual spaces are managed. Underfloor heating can respond differently from radiators, so handover should explain how to operate the agreed controls. Where radiators remain elsewhere, our central heating service can help consider the combined system. For impartial background on heating choices and controls, visit the Energy Saving Trust. Running costs depend on the property, heat source, tariffs and how the system is used; savings cannot be assumed for every installation.

Frequently asked questions

It may be suitable, but the floor construction, available height, insulation and room heat requirements need to be assessed. Tell us whether you plan to lift or replace the floor as part of the project.

A wet underfloor heating system can sometimes be integrated with existing radiator systems using an appropriate design and controls. We need to assess the heat source, pipework and temperature requirements before recommending an arrangement. Find out about heating controls and system integration.

Contact us before floor construction and finishes are finalised. Early planning allows space for pipework, manifolds and controls, and helps coordinate the installation with insulation, screed and other trades.
